7th Biannual Bhagavad Geeta chanting competition
Date: August 27, 2011, Saturday, at 10am in Saraswathi Nilayam

Chapter III: Verses 1-20

Deadline for Registration: August 20, 2011.
All registrants are requested to arrive at least 15 minutes early (so that we can start on time) and stay till the end of the competition.

Please note: the concluding verse of every chapter, “ iti srimadbhagavadgitasupanishatsu…….” is inappropriate to recite here since we are not ending the chapter. Therefore, please make sure that the children do not recite that verse.

Grouping is as follows.

Group I.    KG and below    -   verses 1-5
Group II.  1st and 2nd Gr. -   verses 1-7
Group III. 3rd and 4th Gr. -   verses 1-10
Group IV.  5th and 6th Gr. -   verses 1- 15
Group V.   7th Gr. and up   -     verses 1-20

Grades Apply to school year starting August, 2011.
If a child likes to memorize more verses than allotted for the grade, she/he could sign up for the higher level ahead of time (the evaluation will then be with that group). For example, if a 6th grader likes to sign up for all the 20 verses, the child will go into group V.

Registration Fee: $10.00 per child payable to HTCT.

Please send registration information (Name of the child, Name of the parent to be contacted, grade the child is in and the Group the child likes to compete in, address, e-mail, and Tel #) with the registration fee to:
Hindu Temple of Central Texas
4309 Midway Drive
Temple, Texas, 76502.

Judgment is based on:*
1. Clarity of expression
2. Memory power
3. Confidence in presentation

THE RECITATION ORDER AS DEVELOPED WILL NOT BE CHANGED.
*There had been complaints in the past, ‘my child did well, but he/she did not get the prize. Why?’ The answer is very simple. It is a competition. In competition, only the top scorer will get the prize. Perhaps, one will understand the fairness of the process by attending to the whole competition, (such complaints were from parents of participants who did not attend the whole competition, even in the same group, for one reason or another).
